How to Human More Soulfully
An invitation to create the kind of life you no longer want to escape
+ Our inaugural 5-week live training on how to create a more soul-aligned life is now open for applications. Class begins May 22. If you’re uncertain of What’s Next in your life and are seeking clarity, I invite you to check it out.
Hemingway said everyone dies twice.
The first time is when you stop breathing and they bury you. The second is when someone speaks your name for the last time.
There’s a third death, too, which devours in slow motion from within, hollowing out all sense of aliveness, creativity, and purpose.
That death is caused by all the ideas you’ve inherited about who you should be and what your life is for, which you’ve been told is the lifelong Pursuit of Happiness.
When a society is built on consumption and status signaling like ours is, it must feed our addiction to the Pursuit and create a growing dissatisfaction with ourselves to keep the whole thing going.
Corporations, governments and most institutions know this, which is why they capitalize on our insecurity, feelings of inadequacy, and desire to belong. They have a vested interest in making sure the Pursuit never ends.
That’s the un-secret secret driving all marketing and politics. We know it and feel the growing dislocation in ourselves around our agreement to it.
Now, everything is beginning to change.
We’ve caught on to the fact that we’ve been the subjects of the largest psy-op in modern history, designed to make us productive consumers who aren’t functionally much different than the human batteries in the Matrix.
That realization has led people like me (and probably you, too) to say, “F*** that. There’s a better way and I’m going to find it.”
Where Humanity is Headed
If you want to know where a culture evolving, pay attention to its artists, philosophers, writers, and creators—especially the inspired young and disillusioned mid-lifers.
They’re pointing the way.
Where are they pointing? Toward a more authentic way of life that is creative and rooted in a deeper sense of personal agency, aligned expression, and nourishing community.
That’s what is behind all the quiet (and loud) quitting, the momentum that has been building in the Creator Economy since the early 2000’s, and the remarkable shift in the collective consciousness.
We want to human better—more soulfully—and that means the old stories of who we are and why we’re alive must be re-imagined.
That also means the hyper-individualist days of trying to do it alone are over. You’ve undoubtedly heard the old saying:
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
Even that is outdated, because going alone doesn’t necessarily mean going fast anymore. What is more likely is that you’ll die alone in your attempts to go solo.
If you want to go far and fast, go with others. It’s as simple as that. Find the others who are aiming for the horizon, too, and go together. That has been the greatest lesson of my own journey, and one I’m continually reminded of and integrating into my life.
An Invitation
It’s been a vision of mine, slow in coming, to create a space to empower those who are re-defining their lives, re-inventing their stories, and re-wilding their souls. To create a way for like-minded explorers to go together.
On May 22, I’m starting a 5-week live class and community of practice on finding the way to more clarity, aliveness, and fulfillment.
It will also be the start of a new community for high-agency creators, leaders, and entrepreneurs who want to explore what’s possible in terms of accessing our deepest human potential.
If any of that resonates with you, start here to learn the details about the 5-week class. It’s the launching point.
It might be for you if . . .
You’re a high-agency creator, business leader, or entrepreneur standing at the threshold of What’s Next in your personal evolution.
You’ve reached the map’s edge. The old ways of living and working no longer work, and you’re curious about how to activate your deepest potential.
You’re curious about what’s really possible in your life, and how to create more aliveness, fulfillment, and intentionality in every aspect of it.
You want to “find the others”. You’re tired of going solo and feel irresistibly drawn to cultivate a personal network of fellow conscious creators who are on a similar journey as you.
I want to leave you with this.
I’ve written for years now about living on purpose, on whether or not anyone can really know what their life’s purpose is, and if so how to actualize it. I believe we’ve overcomplicated the whole matter, to be honest.
I can tell you what your purpose is: it’s to be yourself.
The ancients knew this. All the sages wrote and talked about it. Even the scientists and psychologists have (finally) caught up to the mystics and realized our dissatisfaction and feelings of disconnection are rooted in the betrayal of ourselves.
The way out of that is through, and the way through is within. But you already knew that, and that you can no longer ignore the Voice calling you into What’s Next, even if you don’t know exactly what that means yet.
So what are you waiting for?
I love this concept: "You've reached the map's edge." There will be no trail until you make one. It reminds me of the Van Gogh quote about no flowers growing on paved roads. Thanks for the inspiration.
